The Faculty of Pharmacy of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University welcomes students to study Pharmacy course!
On November 8, 1853, the pharmaceutical department was opened at the Faculty of Philosophy of Lviv University, now the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University.
The first academic year began in October 1854 and was carried out according to a two-year program. In the 1920s, organizational changes took place at the Faculty of Philosophy, which led to the closure of the pharmaceutical department in 1925. But in 1930, thanks to the efforts of the Galician pharmaceutical community, the pharmaceutical department was restored at the Medical Faculty of Lviv University and studies were now conducted according to a four-year program. For the practical training of students, in 1991 the first Educational and Production Pharmacy in Ukraine was opened, which to this day remains a unique educational and practical base for student pharmacists.
It is impossible not to mention the botanical garden – the only specialized garden of medicinal plants in Ukraine, founded back in the 1920s by the efforts of Prof. T. Vilchynsky, which is a natural monument of local importance and is part of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine as a national treasure.
Today, the structure of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University includes 9 departments: biological chemistry; general, bioinorganic, physicocolloid chemistry; management in healthcare, pharmacotherapy and clinical pharmacy; organization and economics of pharmacy; drug technology and biopharmacy; toxicological and analytical chemistry; pharmacognosy and botany, pharmaceutical, organic and bioorganic chemistry; philosophy and economics. Specialized units of the University are associated with the faculty – the Educational and Production Pharmacy, the Botanical Garden and the Center for Innovation in Healthcare and Digital Medicine.
The faculty’s specialists work on a variety of topics covering all areas of pharmacy. The results of scientific work, including publications in recognized, highly cited publications, ensure the faculty’s leading positions in national and international rankings.
The faculty supports the European integration processes of the state; scientific and pedagogical staff are involved in international grant projects. Partnerships have also been established with a number of Ukrainian educational and scientific institutions.
Since its foundation, the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National University has been developing and maintaining its leading position among the Lviv pharmaceutical schools. Over the past 170 years, the faculty has trained more than 12,000 specialists.
